Mersea Island has been welcoming families, friends and familiar faces for generations, and Mersea Barns is our way of extending a warm welcome to you.
Our doors opened March 2019...
For us, the time was right to provide a new hub for the village of East Mersea, with a space that can be used and treasured by everyone.
Our custom-built barn is set within the idyllic farmland on the East of Mersea Island, on a site that once housed the much-loved Jarman’s Nursery and Pick-Your-Own. With planning permission under our belt in November 2016, we turned to familiar faces and familiar places for inspiration; and took the plunge into making Mersea Barns Shop & Café a reality.
And then there was Covid...
Almost a year to the day of our opening the Covid pandemic hit and everything changed. The cafe closed and but the kitchen started making frozen pies and meals. The shop moved to our kiosk hatch. We opened our website shop and delivered orders around Mersea Island, and further afield. We were delighted we could help the local community by providing a safe and convenient place to shop for food and essentials.
And now we're back - busier than ever!
As restrictions have lifted we have continued to adapt and expand what we offer to locals and visitors alike.
