Explore the England Coast Path

The Perfect Pitstop on the King Charles III England Coast Path

There is something inherently soul-soothing about a coastal walk—the salt air, the rhythm of the tide, and that sense of endless horizon. Here at Mersea Barns, we are lucky enough to be very close to the King Charles III England Coast Path.

If you’re planning to tackle the Mersea stretch of this stunning national trail, we have some good news. Mersea Barns isn’t just nearby; we are a mere short stroll from the path, making us the ultimate basecamp for your island adventure.

Mersea Barns is a great for walkers

Whether you are a seasoned hiker aiming to conquer the full island loop or a weekend stroller taking in the scenery, location is everything.

  • The Perfect Starting Point: Park up, fuel up with a morning coffee, and head straight out to the trail. Being so close to the path means less time navigating roads and more time enjoying the shoreline.
  • The Ultimate Half-Way Oasis: Walking the coastal path is thirsty work. We are perfectly positioned as a "refuelling station." Why settle for a squashed sandwich when you can have a chef-prepared meal? Take a look at our Café menus.
  • A Warm Welcome: Muddy boots? Wagging tails? We’ve got you covered. We pride ourselves on being a relaxed, welcoming space for explorers (and their four-legged companions).

Lunch: The Best View Isn't Just Outside

After a few miles of sea breeze, nothing beats ducking into the warmth of the Barns. Our menu is packed with local flavors that celebrate the very landscape you’re walking through. From hearty seasonal specials to light bites and artisanal cakes, our lunch service is designed to give you that much-needed energy boost for the second half of your trek.

Pro Tip: If the sun is out, our outdoor seating area is the perfect spot to soak up the island atmosphere while you rest your legs.

Lovely lunch
Another great place to have lunch and do a bit of gift buying. The menu is good but not overwhelming with some lovely lunch options. All reasonably priced and locally sourced produce. The adjacent shop has good selection of gifts, produce and children's toys. All ethically sourced. Mersea Barns is well worth a visit

Highly recommend
Mersea Barn is a very light and spacious place to eat. Very clean and welcoming with shop that sells unique items to keep or give as presents. The food is always freshly cooked and plenty of it with the most friendly staff. We eat there many times while on holiday.
